Local flood forecasts have been developed as part of the FAIR project. These produce alerts defining different levels of risk with associated advice.

Risk of heavy rain

  • Look out for further local flood forecast updates
  • Alert neighbours or vulnerable people
  • Visually check local drainage systems (road gullies, watercourses and debris screens) if safe to do so. Report highway blockages to Staffordshire County Council: Report Flooding and Drainage.
  • Monitor community flood webcams (if available)
  • Check and test Property Flood Resilience measures (e.g. flood gates)

  • Possible disruption, stay prepared
  • Monitor the situation before heading out
  • Move belongings to higher ground if possible

Risk of surface water flooding

  • Alert neighbours or vulnerable people
  • Deploy Property Flood Resilience measures - block doorways and airbricks as needed
  • Keep your flood pack handy
  • Maintain personal safety (e.g. do not walk or drive through flood water). Do not underestimate the power of flood water.
  • Turn off utilities if safe to do so
  • Move vehicles to a safe location away from areas known to be at risk of flooding.
  • Raise or move belongings upstairs
  • Be prepared to move family and pets to safety
  • Activate community plan (if available)
