This transformative project will reduce the flood risk to both commercial and residential properties from future flooding, while also delivering a range of wider community benefits, including:
This scheme is a strong example of how flood risk management can achieve broader outcomes through collaboration across departments and councils. It has attracted £173,600 in National Grant in Aid Funding, £160,000 in Local Levy funding, and an additional £20,000 from UKSPF to support connectivity improvements.
Delivering this scheme in a tight urban environment was never going to be a quick or easy win. However, through thoughtful planning and coordinated effort, we’ve created a solution that supports a community reliant on a small but vital commercial area—including a pharmacy, convenience store, butchers, takeaways, hairdressers, and the important SNAP building supporting SEND services.
Crucially, this scheme has been shaped by community decision-making, with local shop managers and owners playing an inspirational role throughout. Their input has been essential in ensuring the scheme’s delivery was as smooth and minimally disruptive as possible.
